A$AP Rocky Would Like For TDE & A$AP Mob To Join Forces, Speaks on G-Unit & Calls Out Wiz Khalifa and Snoop (Video)

After a two-year hiatus from Long.Live.A$AP., A$AP Rocky released his sophomore Album At.Long.Last.A$AP. last week. In promotion of that project he stopped by Shade 45 to chop it up with DJ Whoo Kid on The Whoolywood Shuffle. Rocky stated that the goal for his sophomore offering is to trigger emotions not felt in music currently, stating that the only artist who you can argue evokes a certain emotion is Drake. Outside of that there’s no clear artist achieving that, so with A.L.L.A. that was the main priority. Rocky stated the last time we had a feel like this was with G-Unit, with the spinning chains, du-rags, and bullet proof vests. He said “thank god the Master P spinning shoes never caught on.”

The interview kicked off with Rocky clearing the air on the Makonnen story, where he had given Rocky acid down at SXSW, which was misconstrued by the media. A segway into the Rod Stewart collaboration for “Everyday” was up next. “Mark Ronson was the genius behind that record,” Rocky credited, “there were a ton of edits on that song, I can’t even fully remember the feeling I had when the last edit was made.” One thing he admits though is the fact he felt that Schoolboy Q out-rapped him on “Electric Body” and Lil Wayne out-rapped him on “M’$”. He recorded his verse first, and he felt that if he went in to re-record it would’ve been corny. He stated “they got me on those two, I’m going to have to go harder with them next time.”

Rocky heavily reflected on A$AP Yams, who died unexpectedly prior to the Album’s release. A.L.L.A. was conceptualized by Yams, so it was dope seeing what Rick Owens’s wife, Michèle Lamy, had came up with the artwork, Rocky stated. He’s still can’t believe Yams is gone, and he played a crucial role in the direction of the whole Mob. The reason everyone in the clique respected Yams was that he wasn’t your typical manager, he wasn’t a “yes man”, Rocky went on to say.

In the future A$AP Rocky hopes that the Mob can join forces with TDE, sort of giving Hip-Hop a renewed feel of The Wu-Tang Clan. He then goes on to speak on the ring that Swizz Beats gifted him, which was gifted to Swizz from the Prince of Dubai. Rocky was rolling up a blunt, and he had given A$AP Lou Benga the ring to hold. Next thing you know the ring was left behind, never seen again, but Swizz was understanding.

Other topics included PacSun removing his merchandise from their shelves on Memorial Day, Lil B cursing the Houston Rockets and how the media misconstrued Lil B defusing a beef between himself and another unnamed rapper, having Mos Def change his name back from Yasiin Bey, and closed out the interview with a crazy story!

Wiz Khalifa had challenged A$AP Rocky to a smoke-off, but Wiz and Snoop didn’t want to use blunts they wanted to use BS papers (Rocky’s words). Then Wiz pulled out the dabs, and once the dabs hit Rocky’s chest he lost his poker face. Whoo Kid had the same situation happen to him last 4/20 out at the Red Rocks with Snoop & Wiz, and Rocky started laughing. He said it’s all cool though because he got Wiz right back. On the last stop of Under The Influence of Music Tour Rocky busted out psychedelic mushrooms. Once they hit the club Wiz started bugging out, and you have to watch the interview to see what Wiz started doing! Reflecting back on that tour, Rocky said it was the best experience of his life. “The vibe was just perfect!” And this was where he gained an appreciation for Trinidad James and B.o.B., who receive a lot of hate. You can’t hate on artists that are humble, Rocky closed out with saying.
