Tonight was a historic night for Kendrick Lamar, he took the first award of the evening for Rap Album of the Year for To Pimp A Butterfly. Later in the evening when Don Cheadle went to introduce the performance we knew what to expect but didn’t know it would be as powerful as it was. Opening up with “The Blacker The Berry” with what seemed like a scene cut out of The Shawshank Redemption, Kendrick immediately debuted a new single as well.
